About us
WePlanet is a global grassroots movement of citizens, scientists, experts and activists campaigning to defend science-based solutions to climate change, biodiversity loss and development. We are solutions-agnostic, going where the evidence takes us to advocate for technology, policy changes and outcomes that deliver our core objectives in the fastest, fairest and broadest ways possible. We are a progressive community that is explicitly non-partisan and non-party political. We draw on the philosophy of Ecomodernism whilst actively challenging powerful vested interests that dominate global environmental systems. We are entirely funded by philanthropic foundations and small donors and we do not accept corporate donations.
Our core objectives are:
-
A fast exit from fossil fuels
-
Radically reforming land use to feed the population while sparing land for rewilding
-
Accelerating global south prosperity in a fair and equitable way
This means we are specifically campaigning to:
-
Preserve and expand nuclear energy as a means to rapidly advance both de-carbonisation, and increase carbon-free prosperity around the world, especially in the Global South.
-
See a rapid transition away from animal proteins to alternative proteins like plant-based proteins, precision fermentation and cultivated meats and dairy.
-
Support yield increasing innovations such as CRISPR-Cas9 to feed a growing population whilst reducing agricultural chemical use.
Supporting these aims is a core requirement working with us.
The WePlanet network is made up of individual national organisations and is supported by a central secretariat which has secured funding for an exciting new programme of public supporter development and digital fundraising. The building of this new movement provides an opportunity to break from old-fashioned attitudes towards the environment, to defend science, elevate humanity and liberate nature.
